Josh Wallace
Mental Health Therapist
Hello! My name is Josh, and I’m a recent transplant from Michigan to New Mexico. This move has given me a fresh perspective in life and allowed me to experience so many new things. Born and raised in Michigan, I felt it was time for a change of scenery, and I’m excited to continue both my personal and professional journey in a new environment.
I’ve completed my Clinical Mental Health Counseling program through Central Michigan University and recently graduated this May! While I’ve just completed my schooling, I’m not new to the mental health field. Prior to starting my program, I worked for nearly three years as a para-professional Mental Health Counselor across a variety of mental health settings, gaining experience supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds and walks of life.
Those experiences helped shape my worldview and deepened my belief that mental and emotional wellness are foundational to every aspect of our lives. My personal philosophy is: “If we’re not okay, nothing around us will be okay.” I believe that before we can effectively care for the things around us, we often need to address the struggles within ourselves first. Sometimes we can navigate those challenges independently, and sometimes we need support—and that’s okay.
As a therapist, I strive to be a compassionate outside perspective who can help clients better understand themselves, develop healthier coping strategies, and navigate life’s challenges in meaningful ways. Drawing from CBT, Reality Therapy, and Solution-Focused approaches, I work collaboratively with clients to cultivate self-awareness, healing, growth, and finding meaning.
Outside of counseling, I’m in a long-term committed relationship with my partner and am the proud stepdad to one very cute dog named Carl. In my free time, I enjoy playing video games, board games, and card games, reading, watching TV, discovering new music, learning about different belief systems, and holding onto a strong belief in the goodness of people. I’m also perpetually working on writing a fantasy novel—which may or may not ever be finished. Time will tell.
