Mental Health Therapist
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Hello, I’m Mikel. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New Mexico. I earned both my bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in counseling from Cameron University in Oklahoma.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than 15 years teaching swimming lessons to people of all ages. That experience taught me the importance of patience, connection, and building trust, which are all things I carry with me into my work as a therapist. My experience includes supporting individuals navigating trauma and addiction, as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community.

My approach to therapy is person centered, and I believe that feeling comfortable, understood, and accepted is an important part of the therapeutic process. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which I find helpful because they offer practical tools for understanding thoughts and emotions, developing coping skills, and working through difficult experiences. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process where your experiences, values, and goals are an important part of the work we do together.

My hope is that therapy can be a place where you feel comfortable showing up as yourself and talking about the things that may be difficult to put into words. I look forward to getting to know you, building a trusting relationship, and helping you find the tools and perspective that work best for you.
